Last weekend FogoAzul NYC brazilian drumline samba band was invited to play at the Annual Honk Festival. Honk is an awesome annual 3-day free festival bringing brass bands and street bands from all over the United States and the world to Somerville, MA for a celebration of music, community and activism!
FogoAzul NYC is part of worldwide drumming network called Grooversity lead by Salvador de Bahia native Marcus Santos. Hence, were honored to join them for a weekend of fun and learning.
Not only did Fogo Azul NYC play with Grooversity on Saturday afternoon, they attended a free event at the JFK Presidential Library and Museum for kids which sparked ideas in the mind of Stacy Kovacs for NYC school programs, as well as played a show with Grooversity at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum for their annual “Opening Our Doors Day”.
Lookey! Brazilian drumline samba band meets a rock star!
In addition, we were psyched to be invited to watch a concert with Czech LEGEND Petr Janda, one of the pioneers of rock music in Czechoslovakia since the early 1960’s. Marcus Santos also played percussion with him!!! SWEEEET!
Speaking of Marcus Santos, Fogo Azul NYC would like to give a special thanks to Marcus for the invite. We had a blast and look forward to everything that has yet to come!
If you missed us in Massachusetts last weekend, you can catch us at New York City’s Annual Halloween Parade! For more information about this event, check out our facebook event page! Follow Fogo Azul NYC Samba Drum Marching Band on Social Media! @FogoAzulNY
