Fogo Azul plays to honor Hélio Oiticica
Fogo Azul is excited to play at Socrates Sculpture Park as part of its summer-long program: Hélio Oiticia: Subterranean Tropicália Projects.
This immersive environment is the first realization of a never-before-executed idea by the late Brazilian artist. Oiticica envisioned the work in 1971, as part of a series of Subterranean Tropicália Projects for Central Park, while he was living in New York City, drawing inspiration from the thriving underground culture. The circular structure of curving corridors provides visitors with a sensory multi-sensory experience and a space for the public to collectively engage in auto-performance.
Fogo Azul presents a lively, fun, loud and spirited performance! Fogo Azul is New York City’s homegrown all women/trans/non-binary Brazilian-American Drumline! Founded in 2016 and based in Queens, the band can be seen appearing at over 150 events per year ranging from birthday parties and weddings to fundraisers, galas, parades and marches. Fogo Azul NYC is a community group open to folks who believe music and rhythm is in every human—if you give them the means, very loudly! Fogo Azul NYC is an age and ethnically diverse community of people who span the drummer spectrum from novice to professional.
