Why did you decide to join Fogo Azul? What was the catalyst?

I heard the drums in a parade and felt the beat throughout my body and soul.

Did you have drumming or musical experience before joining Fogo? If so, what?

No previous experience in drumming. I am a Division two athlete and my father John is Portuguese and Mami Sonia is Puerto Rican so the Latino beat was always part of my family music.

As a drummer/musician, what do you enjoy about being in this drumline?

The music soothes my soul. The athletic movements keeps me in shape. The friendships...

Outside of drumming, what you do enjoy about being a part of this community?

The camaraderie and generosity of the people

What do you enjoy most about the drum you play?

We are always moving and dancing.

What attracted you to drumming?

It spoke to my soul.

Brooklyn Pride Parade ... NYC Marathon Opening Ceremonies and for ESPN at an amusement park

What has been the most interesting place you’ve been to because of Fogo?

Salvador, Brazil for Carnaval

What -if anything, surprises you about your experience in playing with Fogo?

Everyone loves it as much as I do! The commitment from every team member and the smiles from the people who hear us

How has drumming with Fogo Azul benefitted you or enhanced your life?

I have a bit of social anxiety so being in a band with 100 women and being comfortable has benefited me personally. In 2021 I had a brain aneurism and band members visited, sent presents, food and encouragement to my healing.

What do your friends and/or family think or say about you drumming with Fogo?

They are very proud of me. They love the music and how well we all play together. They love the people I am friendly with who have the biggest hearts I know.

What have you learned about yourself being in this drumline?

I can drum well and I can walk into a room filled with 100 women and feel socially accepted no matter what. We are a family.

What other hobbies or creative outlets do you have in your life?

I am an artist and I love anything physical like hiking and biking. I travel flying internationally and also throughout the United States in a trailer.

What would you tell someone who is thinking of joining? Why should they join?

It really is a group of wonderful people and "like" people similar to me.
