The friendship and the sisterhood

What do you enjoy most about the drum you play?
We the Surdos are the heart beat of the band. ❤️
What attracted you to drumming?
I’m a Latina and the sound of a drum runs through my blood, even though I didn’t have a clue of music, I knew I belong here.
What are your top 2-3 favorite Fogo performances you’ve played in?
Dyke March, Mermaid Parade and Dumbo Drop
What has been the most interesting place you’ve been to because of Fogo?
Salvador, Bahia
What -if anything, surprises you about your experience in playing with Fogo?
That at my age am able to play such a huge drum and the more I play the more I want to keep doing it.
How has drumming with Fogo Azul benefitted you or enhanced your life?
Drumming with Fogo has given my life a new reason to keep waking up every day. Besides my two sons and my job I have a new motivation to feel alive, it benefits me because it makes me happy.
What do your friends and/or family think or say about you drumming with Fogo?
I just care about what my sons thinks about me and they are happy seeing me enjoying my life to the fullest with my Fogo Family, because that is what the band means to me, a new Family.
What have you learned about yourself being in this drumline?
That I am stronger than what I thought I was 🥰
What other hobbies or creative outlets do you have in your life?
None at this moment, just being a Fogolera
What would you tell someone who is thinking of joining? Why should they join?
Don’t think about it, just try it you won’t be able to leave cause the rhythm will get into your veins.
You should join because we are easy to play with.
